Federal-Level Issues
Support
Increased Funding for McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants
The US House of Representatives requested allocations for funding
McKinney at the $1.536 billion level as included in the House
version of the appropriations bill for FY 2007. This represents an
increase of 16% over last year’s funding level. We support
this increase and encourage the US Senate to adjust their allocation
amount to match the House's.
Re-Authorization of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
We support versions of reauthorization of the McKinney-Vento
Homeless Assistance Act that reinforce the successful efforts of
local continuums of care and allow communities to use McKinney-Vento
funds to meet the most pressing needs of homeless people locally.
Most importantly, support increased funding for homeless assistance
programs
Creation of a National Housing Trust Fund
The affordable housing crisis affects every of our nation, including
Hillsborough County. The National Housing Trust Fund Campaign
is working to establish a National Housing Trust Fund that would
build and preserve 1.5 million units of rental housing for the
lowest income families over the next 10 years.
Special thank to the
Miami Coalition for the
Homeless who generously funds our state-level advocacy
efforts.
