Member Handbook

Welcome to the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County!

As a member of the Coalition, you are demonstrating your commitment to helping our homeless neighbors and being part of the solution needed to fully meet their needs.  You are joining with others -- nonprofit organizations, service providers, governmental entities, community leaders, faith communities, businesses and citizens -- who through mutual support and recognition are working to develop and implement systemic change and services that close the gaps in the current homeless system of care.

We know through the work of other communities throughout the nation that no single organization, individual or governmental agency can meet the needs of every homeless person; therefore involvement from the entire community is needed to meet the needs of our homeless neighbors.

The Coalition’s role, as the lead agency for this community’s homeless continuum of care, is to keep the ‘big picture’ of homelessness in mind while working closely with providers who ‘specialize’ in working with the different subpopulations – single men, single women, families with children, youth, victims of domestic violence, persons with mental illness, substance abuse -- within the larger homeless population.  By leading the implementation of the community developed plans, a strategic effort is maintained, duplication is minimized and resources can be used in the most efficient and effective way possible.

I invite you to be an active member of the Coalition by also joining one of our committees, either the Continuum of Care or Community Relations.  Both committees are “working committees” needed to advance our community’s 10-year plan to end homelessness in Hillsborough County.

The purpose of the membership handbook is to provide you with an in-depth overview of the Coalition, including the organization’s structure, policies and procedures, and community-developed plans to expand services and meet the immediate and long-term needs of our homeless neighbors.  I believe it will be an invaluable tool for you as a member.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or another staff member at the Coalition.

Again, on behalf of the Coalition staff, board of directors and members, I want to welcome you and look forward to working closely with you to develop long-term creative solutions to meet the needs of the thousands of homeless and near homeless men, women and children living in Hillsborough County.

 Sincerely,

 Rayme L. Nuckles, CEO
